Will a wi-fi router work in my halls for use on an ipad?
I currently live in halls at university and have an ipad. The internet in my room is only an ethernet connection which i cant find a way of connecting to my ipad. If I get a router and plug it into my desktop which has the ethernet cable, will that give me wi-fi in my room?
Yes, if you plug in a WiFi router, you will get WiFi for the iPad.
Check with the university policies however, you may not be permitted to add networking equipment.

You are mixing up WiFi with 3G. If you purchase a wireless router, you have WiFi. 3G is a service offered by mobile telephone providers for example. There is no dongle which allows you to connect an ethernet cable to the iPad, as this would bypass the purpose of an iPad, being mobile, also at home.
IPad and Internet via Ethernet cable?
I’m going to uni this year and I’m keen on taking my iPad instead of a traditional laptop. I’m aware that at the uni I have in my room I have an Ethernet cable for Internet. Is there any way I can find an adapter or some how connect to the Internet with my iPad ? Many thanks

Are you sure there isn’t wifi there already.
Or you have to buy a wifi router and plug it in. They are like 50 bucks to start.
You may need a computer to set up the router and security so not everybody on the floor is using it,

I’ve been having problems with the Apple Remote app, and none of the help i found online seemed to work. Then I had an idea. The computer with the library I can’t connect to is a desktop that gets it internet through the same router (or whatever), but via an ethernet cable. The iPad I’m using Remote with is obviously on wifi. Is this what’s causing the problem? An if so, how can I fix it?
That won’t be the problem and you need to look elsewhere – your data is all IP packets at the end of the day, and the one of the whole points of a router is that it forwards those packets between incompatible networks seamlessly.
In any case, WiFi _is_ ethernet. It uses radio waves as its communications medium but it is still ethernet, no different to ethernet over coaxial cable, twisted pair, fiber optic or any other physical medium.
What is a ethernet cable?
To connect to the internet I use a mobile broadband dongle on my laptop. I want to use the internet of this to use for Wi-fi purposes (mainly for DS, Wii and iPad). But I have heard you need a “ethernet cable” to connect them. So I am asking if
A.) Is this actually possible
B.) If so how on earth does it work
because I have no clue how it works. Thank you
An Ethernet cable is a hardwired connection between a computer/laptop and an ISP modem either connected to a phone line or cable.
It the fastest method to transfer data.
If your using a mobile broadband dongle then you don’t need one because the dongle plugs straight into your laptop.
