How to Integrate Windows Server 2003 DNS on an Existing DNS Infrastructure

This article will tells you how to configure a new Windows Server 2003 Domain Name Services (DNS) server in an existing DNS server environment.

You have to install the Windows Server 2003 on a server which is attached to your network, for creating a new Windows Server 2003 DNS Server. During the installation of Windows Server 2003, DNS service will not install. For the installation of DNS service, perform the following steps:

  • Click on the Start, point to Settings and then click on the Control Panel.
  • Then you have to double-click on the Add or Remove Programs and then click on Add/Remove Windows Components.
  • After this, in the Windows Component Wizard, click on the Networking Services in the Components list and then click on the Details.
  • In Networking Services, click to pick out the Domain Name System (DNS) check box if it is not already selected and then click on OK.
  • In the Windows Components Wizard, click on Next.
  • If you are prompted to insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM into the computer’s CD-ROM drive, then perform it.
  • Then setup copies the DNS server and the tool files to your computer.
  • When the installation is complete, click on Finish.

You can integrate a Windows Server 2003 DNS server directly into the DNS zone, in case DNS Servers cannot be upgraded. For performing this, you have to delegate certain zones to the Windows Server 2003 DNS server. Follow these steps to perform this:

  • Click on Start, point to Programs, click on the Administrative Tools and then click on DNS.
  • Then click on the DNS Server object for your server and then expand the server object to expand the tree.
  • After this, right-click on the server object and then click on Configure a DNS Server to start the Configure a DNS Server Wizard.
  • Click on Next. Then click on Create a forward lookup zone and after that click on Next. Click on An ISP maintains the zone and a read-only secondary copy resides on this server.
  • In the Zone Name dialog box, type the name of the zone.
  • In the Master DNS Servers dialog box, type the IP address of a known DNS server.
  • Then click on the Next. Click No, it should not forward queries and then click Next.
  • After performing all these steps, click on Finish to save the new configuration and to configure the DNS server.

Here you have configured DNS Server on existing DNS Infrastructure. In the above procedure for windows server 2003 support.

Iphone unable to connect to wifi (169.xxx.xxx.xxx ip address) PLEASE HELP!?
I have an iphone 3g which has the 4.0 update

    1. when I connect to my network, it displays 3 full bars at the top left hand corner of my iphone but when I go on to a random webpage on safari is says “Cannot open page. Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet”.

    2. I went into my wi-fi settings and notice that my ip address starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and my subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 but everything else is cleared out.

    3. On my sisters iphone 4 and on the ipad (able to connect to browse internet), the ip address starts with 192.xxx.x.x, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the router and DNS is 192.xxx.x.x

    4. Back to my iphone 3g, I manually enter these addresses in the static tab of the ip address option in the wifi settings. Again get full 3 bars at the top left hand corner of the iphone.

    5. I go back on safari and go to a random website but then it says “Cannot open page. Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding”

    Iv tried nearly everything:
    - restarting iphone
    - forgetting the network then connecting to it again
    - reset the router
    - power cycled the router
    - reset network settings
    - switched airplane mode off and back on
    - turned wifi off and on

Theres got to be something that can fix this problem!
    - is it because of the update?
    - I dropped my phone but i dont think it effected this… maybeee :/
    - Iv searched all over the web!
    - Im just a teen so im not to sure about all of these technical terms

please, is anyone able to help me?
    kind regards….. xx

Changed DNS on iPad’s WiFi, is that bad?
I was trying to fix the slow-YouTube issue on my iPad. If you weren’t aware, or didn’t own an iPad, YouTube loads noticeably slower on the device than on a traditional computer. It’s a wide spread issue, so I checked in a forum which claimed by changing your DNS to ***.**.***.***, ***.**.***.*** it apparently fixes the issue. It’s supposedly a YouTube based issue, so it’s likely nothing to do with hardware or connection. All I’m asking is, will changing the settings have a negative result on anything else? How does changing the DNS affect the network? Did I affect the router, or just the iPad?

    • Bostonian In MO says:

Many ISPs’ DNS servers are oversubscribed and poorly designed. Switching to a high-performance 3rd party DNS service such as OpenDNS or GoogleDNS will solve many performance issues. It would not be a YouTube problem but would affect all Internet traffic.

DNS resolves human readable URLs and host names to machine readable IP addresses. If DNS fails, access to Internet resources slows significantly as it times out and tries repeatedly to get an address for the target machine.

      OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220

      GoogleDNS: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

You can put the setting on your iPad or any other network device. Or you can put it on your router and every machine on your network will automatically benefit.

One caution: Never change the DNS settings on a business network unless you are the administrator and KNOW how to set up DNS properly. Changing the DNS addresses on a corporate network can cause lots of strange problems including failed logons and inability to access network resources.

YouTube doesn’t play properly on my iPad?
I bought and iPad and was so happy i got one. The only problem i am having with the iPad however is that YouTube loads pretty slowly. The reason is the iPad loads Youtube videos at 720p, a video quality my internet connection can’t handle. How do I fix this? And yes i have tried changing my DNS settings to 208.67.222.222 and no luck.
there is no quality selector on the ipad

Well you can always get faster internet, but that’s something more that you’d have to waste your money on. On YouTube players at the bottom right there should be a quality selector that allows you to select the different qualities such as 480p, 720p, etc. As to my knowledge it shouldn’t be stuck on 720p.

YouTube is just slow anyways, well at least that’s what I’ve observered for a lot of the time I’ve used it.
